Mental Health First Aid Training
Updated: Mar 20, 2020
Our mental health is so, so important. This University Mental Health Day, I wanted to highlight an update in our growing support network here at Plymouth College of Art. Last month, I was a part of a group of Student Reps that took a course to become Mental Health First Aid Champions. Personally, this course is something that I’ve wanted to do for a few years and I was so pleased to get the opportunity to be able to support any fellow students who may need it. The course helps to break down the stigma and taught us to recognise the symptoms in order to help find the appropriate support.
So why did I decide to become Mental Health First Aid trained? I personally wanted to feel like I could support more people and in order to do that, I needed to be more knowledgeable about all kinds of mental health conditions, their symptoms and the different kinds of support available for those conditions. It’s nice to be the first point of contact to help -whether it be a chat or signposting the person to get the right professional help.
